It's my notebook, like an F3Jc, but with cheaper plastic. Some months ago I updated the BIOS, and the brightness controls stopped working under Linux. Some days ago I got tired of that and decided that I would fix it.
I don't have time to describe the details of the solution, but I will just say that Asus is to blame here, they have a flawed BIOS that works incorrectly if the OS running happens to be called Linux.
The fix can be found here, I hope that it will work too for the F3Jc. With minor tweaking, it should work for other Asus models (just get your DSDT and perform the same modifications I made, my original DSDT is here, so you can diff both). It has instructions on how to use it. I just hope somebody finds it useful!
