I believe that in order to walk through grief, fear, loneliness, despair, confusion and anger without recourse to drugs, alcohol, over-eating, over-sexing, or the endless mind-numbing distractions provided by Western culture, one must become a spiritual warrior. I further believe that the pay-off for enduring suffering, for soberly embracing the inevitable bouts of emotional pain that life brings, is wisdom and serenity in the face of calamity. But make no mistake here, the path of the warrior is treacherous and cannot be walked alone. To survive, he must have brothers and sisters-in-arms to carry him when he buckles. When we lived and died in small tribes, this principle of mutually supporting one another through the trials of life was deeply woven into the fabric of the group mind. With the advent of towns and cities we were forced to live with the daily dilemma of being desperately alone and yet desperately needing one another. Which is why we are, by design, always seeking new tribes. With that in mind, I humbly offer a simple guideline to evaluate the efficacy of any tribe you might encounter on your path to becoming a spiritual warrior: if they ask for your money or access to your crotch, run away. If they ask for your money, smile unceasingly, never blink, and guarantee to make you a demi-god, running away will not suffice. Change your mailing address and briefly reconsider drugs, alcohol, food, sex and TV.

Verano

Sábado, 19 de Julio. Amanece con 15 grados y nuboso. No pasa nada porque los meteorólogos decían que la probabilidad de lluvia era del 0%, salgo a la calle y baja la temperatura. Debería haber cogido la chaqueta. Vuelvo a casa al cabo de un rato y ya no se está tan mal, empiezo a comer y sale el sol. ¡Oh, albricias! Decido sestear por una horita, cuando vuelvo a abrir los ojos, el sol sigue ahí, pero parece que hayan abierto el grifo de la ducha. ¿Es que esta gente no conoce el concepto de verano? Alemanes, con la mierda de tiempo que tenéis (sin embargo mejor que el de los belgas, según me cuentan), deberíais ir todos a España, a tostaros en la playa como gambas. Así yo me quedo más tranquilo aquí, y vosotros os gastáis vuestro dinero en reflotar un poquito la economía de la piel de toro, que parece que le hace falta.

Lo que pasa es que ahora se dedica a comentar partidos de la eurocopa en la televisión alemana. Era todo un montaje.

Ubuntu ya sale en TVE!!! Cosas veredes, amigo Sancho, todavía me acuerdo de cuando los usuarios de linux éramos unos freaks y la gente nos miraba como si fuésemos bichos raros y las chicas... oh wait!



Lo bueno es que ahora cada vez hay más chicas frikis (véase mi hermana o Bocasecawoman). Los tiempos están cambiando... Pero no tanto, todavía hay mucha gente que ve mi ordenador y dice ¿¿eso que es?? ¿Ande está el Güolrd? Ya caerán, la tendencia es cada vez más clara, el software libre acabará por imponerse, en cuanto aparezca una alternativa libre para un programa propietario, alguna gente usará la alternativa libre (al fin y al cabo es gratis), ésta mejorará y al final será superior a la comercial. Solo es cuestión de tiempo que haya alternativas libres para todos los programas (dado suficente tiempo acabarán por generarse espontáneamente, por quantum tunnelling :-P), y al final todo será libre.

Voy a tener que ir buscándome otras cosas más raras para mantener mi status de friki...

Sinvergüenza

Siempre me da palo contar con qué me gano los leuros para poder vivir (mezcla de trauma infantil y por aquello del qué dirán). Lo cierto es que me encanta lo que hago, estoy orgulloso de ello y me gustaría contarlo a todo el mundo. Para explicarlo, nada mejor que un vídeo que hice este veranito para enseñarlo a otros frikis de lo mío:



Ahí está una parte de mi trabajo de base, colaboro haciendo el programa con el que se calcula el movimiento del gas que se puede ver, lo ejecuto, hago el programa para crear los vídeos, hago los vídeos etc (prácticamente todo). Además escribo artículos (esto es la parte seria) con teorías sobre como, a partir del Big Bang, se acaban formando galaxias en las que hay estrellas que tienen planetas como el nuestro, donde podemos salir a tomar el sol, escalar, y pasarlo bien los findes (hay algunos que también entre semana).

Pues ya está, soy un friki² (cada loco con su tema) Very Happy

Asus Z53Jc

It's my notebook, like an F3Jc, but with cheaper plastic. Some months ago I updated the BIOS, and the brightness controls stopped working under Linux. Some days ago I got tired of that and decided that I would fix it.

I don't have time to describe the details of the solution, but I will just say that Asus is to blame here, they have a flawed BIOS that works incorrectly if the OS running happens to be called Linux.

The fix can be found here, I hope that it will work too for the F3Jc. With minor tweaking, it should work for other Asus models (just get your DSDT and perform the same modifications I made, my original DSDT is here, so you can diff both). It has instructions on how to use it. I just hope somebody finds it useful!
